Royal County Down

This is one of the best golf courses on the whole planet. The course is set alongside the Dundrum Bay – right at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. It has a stunning view like no other course in Northern Ireland has. The course opened 130 years ago and is considered to be one of the oldest golf courses in Northern Ireland.

The Championship Course was ranked the fourth best golf course in the world in 2005 by Golf Digest. It was ranked first in 2007 and in 2016, this course was ranked #1 in the world by US magazine Golf Digest.

Lough Erne Golf Resort

The Lough Erne Championship Course was designed by Nick Faldo and extends over 7,000 yards from the back tees. It lies at the heart of an upmarket development 80 miles west of Belfast. This part of Northern Ireland is more renowned for its angling and water sports than golf. This golf course sits on a spectacular site along the shores of Lough Erne. The competitive side of this golf course was initiated by a charity match in 2009 between two of the leading golfers in Northern Ireland – Rory Mcllory and Padraig Harrington. 

Castlerock

This classic golf course is set amidst towering dunes in the seaside resort of Castlerock. The original course comprises of 9 holes and was founded in 1901. The original course was laid out of the western part of the present course. In 1908, additional land was leased and the golf course was extended up to an 18-hole layout. Castlerock currently has 27 holes – which include the 9-hole Bann course and the 18-hole Mussenden course. The variety of its links holes is a salient feature of this golf course – which is due to the ever-changing size and shape of the dunces.

Portstewart Golf Course

The Portstewart Golf Club comprises of three eighteen-hole courses located in the town of Portstewart. Golf was played in this course as far back as 1889. The golf courses are the Strand Course (par 72), the Old Course (par 64), and the Riverside Course (par 68). The first one is the championship course of this golf club. The golf club was founded in the Old Course in 1894. The Strand Course saw some major developments in the late 1980s where its layout was updated and seven new holes were added. The new Strand Course – designed by Des Giffin – was opened for play in 1992. This golf club hosted the Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open in 2017. 

Ardglass

This stunning golf course is located just 20 miles east of Royal County Down. The golf course consists of links holes, clifftop holes, and seaside holes. The stunning scenery will mesmerise any person who visits the course. Ardglass is famous for its starting combination of five holes – which ripples across the clifftops. The first is a magnificent tee set right on the water’s edge. The clubhouse of the golf course is built on the ruins of a 13th-century castle. Many prominent golfers have highly rated this golf course as being one of the best in the country as well as the world.
