Plan your guest list
Knowing who to invite is one of the most important aspects of planning your wedding reception. Planning your guest list might sound simple but it can be more complicated than what you think. Whilst inviting family members may be a no-brainer for some people, more complex family dynamics can leave you wondering who to put on your invitation list. When it comes to friends and colleagues, planning your guest list doesn’t get any easier. If you’re inviting colleagues, should you ask their partners along too? If friends have moved overseas, should you bother sending a formal invite? Do you want a child-free wedding, or should you invite entire families to your big day?
Of course, the perfect wedding is different for everyone and there are no rights and wrongs when it comes to your big day. However, your guest list will determine how many people are likely to be at your reception, so you’ll need to decide whether you’re planning a small, intimate wedding or a larger reception before you can choose a venue.
Remember, every one of these decisions will no doubt affect the overall cost of your wedding, so especially things like “plus ones” should really be given a lot of thought and discussion between you and your partner.
Decide the date
One of the first things you will need to decide when you start your “wedding planning” phase is teh big question of WHEN. Do you go with the traditional: summer is a popular time to host a wedding but there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to hosting your wedding ceremony. If you want to get married whilst the sun is shining and there’s a warm breeze in the air, summer is your best bet, but an Irish summer doesn’t guarantee good weather! If you’re planning on hosting any part of the event outside, it’s essential to have an appropriate back-up plan in place, just in case it decides to rain. Or maybe opt for a date of significance which may open up the calendar a lot more and could actually save you some money.
With dedicated areas designed to capture the perfect wedding photographs, Northern Resorts ensures you’ll always have a stunning place to take your wedding photographs, more so if you opt for one of our inhouse wedding photographers, such as Shine Pics, for your big day, regardless of whether it rains or shines!
Cater for guests from abroad
People routinely travel long distances to attend weddings, and they’ll need to ensure there’s somewhere nearby to stay. Choosing a venue with limited accommodation or with no nearby facilities can put your guests at a disadvantage. Once you’ve decided how many people you’ll be inviting, be sure that your chosen venue can accommodate them, from small family weddings at Legacurry Mill to 350+ guests, we have a venue to suit.
If you’re inviting guests from overseas, they may arrive a few days in advance or integrate the wedding into their annual holiday. If your chosen venue can also provide added luxuries and entertainment facilities, you can be sure that they’ll be well-taken care of while you’re busy with last-minute preparations.
If guests are unable to celebrate with you in person, this doesn’t mean they have to miss out on your big day completely. With state-of-the-art live streaming services, we can arrange for your ceremony and/or reception to be broadcast to loved ones who aren’t able to join you on the day.
Entertaining your guests
For the bride and groom, a wedding day can pass by in a flurry of activity and you’ll barely notice the time. For guests, however, there can be a considerable amount of waiting time throughout the day. It’s important to ensure that your guests are well-fed and well-entertained while you’re busy having photographs taken, for example. Furthermore, you’ll want to ensure that guests of all ages are kept occupied.
With a dedicated area for teens, as well as a kid’s play area with a registered childminder on-site at Northern Resorts, you can be sure that children and young people will enjoy the day as much you. Giving parents peace of mind and the chance to let their hair down, having a manned play area at your wedding venue will be extremely popular with guests of all ages!
